Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University has been ranked 126 in the recent Times Higher Education Emerging Economies Ranking 2022.
The ranking considers educational institutions in countries or regions the London Stock Exchange’s FTSE Group considers “advanced emerging”, “secondary emerging” or “frontier”.
This year, 698 universities from 50 countries and regions were ranked – including 97 from the Chinese mainland – which is up from 606 last year.
University rankings
In addition to the Emerging Economies Ranking 2022, XJTLU was also ranked in the 601-800 band in this year’s THE World Universities Ranking, maintaining its place from last year.
In July 2021, XJTLU was also ranked 147th in THE’s Young University Rankings, which lists 474 of the world’s best universities under 50 years old.
This year is the first time that XJTLU made the cut, being one of only eight institutions from the Chinese mainland.
XJTLU also debuted at 122 in Times Higher Education’s latest Asia University Rankings.
ESI Top 1% Fields
In addition to THE’s university rankings, XJTLU also joined Clarivate’s Essential Science Indicator in three fields.
ESI is an analytical tool that identifies top-performing research published in 11,000 journals globally based on publication and citation performance in 22 broad ESI-defined fields.
In 2020, XJTLU entered the ESI Top 1% list of institutions in the field of Engineering for the first time, when the number of its citations in that field during the 10 years prior surpassed ESI’s threshold.
In July 2021, XJTLU entered the ESI Top 1% in the field of Computer Science. Only 552 institutions worldwide made the list.
In September 2021, XJTLU entered the ESI Top 1% in the field of Social Science, General, for the first time. Following Engineering and Computer Science, this is the third field that has earned the University a spot on the ESI Top 1%.
Additionally, in the latest ESI performance report, XJTLU ranks 423rd among all institutions in the Chinese mainland. This is six places up from the previous ranking. Overall, the University has 2,356 papers cited 23,124 times in all ESI fields. These papers have an average of 9.81 citations each.
THE subject rankings
Like last year, XJTLU was listed in five of THE’s World Subject Rankings, out of 11. This year’s rankings are:
- Computer science: 251-300
- Engineering: 301-400
- Social sciences: 301-400
- Physical sciences: 401-500
- Business & economics: 501-600
